Knock, knock

Listening to a kindergartener
Reading knock, knock jokes
To another kindergartener.

A joyful reminder...
Childhood-
Of time spent laughing,
Playing with words and ideas,
Building,
Learning.

A joyful reminder...
To be present
To laugh,
And share with others.

Running a Symphony

Running is a symphony
Of movements and sounds.

Swinging arms,
1,2,3,4.
Left, right, left, right.

Tap, tap, tap, tap
As feet land and push
Away from the pavement.

Swing, tap, swing, tap,
The rhythm pushing
And setting the pace.

Encountering others
Adds a head nod,
A smile,
And a wave.

Then back to the rhythm.
Swing, tap, swing, tap,
Swing, tap, swing, tap
Nod, smile, wave.

Today the rhythm was faster
and calmer at the same time.

Spring has brought others to
The symphony,
sharing the beauty of the day.
For that I am grateful.

Gift of today

Today,
A gift of 24 hours.

To breathe
In
And
Out.

To connect,
Body and mind.

To be present to all that unfolds today,
And respond with kindness.

24 hours of kindness,
The gift of today.

Haiku

As I was pulling poetry books for the April book display, I ran across Guyku by Bob Raczka.  I shared it with the third grade teacher, who informed me that the students had experience with haiku.  Planning  to share Guyku with a predominately boy class and decided to try my hand at creating a Guyku.

Listening to chirps.
Realizing it has been
Awhile. Glad to hear.

Chill in air and crisp.
Light beckoning me outside.
Chill and observe Spring.

Sprung

All day my feet have been calling me to move.
With a pep in my step,
I left school ready to start moving.
I ran,
walked,
and have been moving since coming home.
I decluttered one bathroom,
and raked the bed in front of my porch.
As I was sweeping my sidewalk,
My daughter passed by and asked when my break starts,
Now.
How long?
10 days.
Oh my!
What are you doing tomorrow?
I have my list.
Oh my!
And with that she left shaking her head.
I have been sprung from school
And it is time to move.
