Digging a hole

Sitting on the floor with a group of first graders,
As they theorize why Sam and Dave decided to dig a hole,
Each sharing their thoughts,
Then eagerly waiting for me to turn the page.

A part of me hovered above the scene,
Taking it all in.

Slow reading.
With this book, especially,
Reacting,
Theorizing,
Predicting,
Anticipating,
And sharing.
Letting the story roll around.

We took a journey with Sam and Dave today.
Still filled with questions.
"Can we read it again?"

  3. Don't you love that cry, "Can we read it again?" The sign of a KEEPER!

  5. First graders are so amazing! I love hearing them articulate their thoughts around the stories we share. Sounds like you have a great group of kids.
